## What amazon-creators does

amazon-creators exposes Amazon product data through the Model Context Protocol and is aimed at affiliate publishers, content teams, and other workflows that need product information in publishable form. It uses the Amazon Creators API rather than the retired Product Advertising API 5.0 endpoint.

Search results can be returned as summaries or formatted into HTML product cards and grids. Generated embeds can include product images, titles, prices, savings information, star ratings, retrieval timestamps, Associates-tagged links, and an Amazon disclosure footer. The resulting markup is intended for editors and publishing systems that accept HTML, including WordPress, Ghost, and Substack.

## How it works

Install the published npm package with `npx` and register the server in an MCP client. The server communicates directly with Amazon using credentials configured on the machine where it runs. A typical conversational workflow starts with `search_items`, followed by `format_items` when the selected products need to become an embed.

`search_items` returns up to 10 products per page. Additional pages are requested with `itemPage`. For known products, `get_items` accepts ASINs and returns the matching records; callers should use each result's `asin` field because Amazon may return records in a different order and may place unavailable ASINs in an errors collection.

The server can also retrieve child products for a parent ASIN with `get_variations`, or obtain category information and its ancestor chain with `get_browse_nodes`. `format_items` works with data already fetched by another tool and does not call Amazon, making repeated visual revisions independent of the API request rate.

## Setup and configuration

Access requires an approved Amazon Associates account for the target marketplace, at least 10 qualifying shipped sales during the trailing 30 days, and primary-account-owner access. Credentials are created in Associates Central under the Creators API area. Marketplace credentials are region-specific, so the account and selected marketplace need to match the content being produced.

Configure the Login with Amazon v3.x credential pair as `AMAZON_CLIENT_ID` and `AMAZON_CLIENT_SECRET`. Set the matching credential version, Associates tag, and marketplace as well. The package requires Node.js 20 or newer. Older v2.x Cognito credentials are rejected; a new Login with Amazon application is required instead.

Claude Desktop can launch the package through an MCP configuration using `npx -y @houtini/amazon-creators-mcp`. The credentials remain on the local machine while the server makes requests to Amazon.

## Tools and capabilities

- `search_items`: searches the Amazon catalogue with pagination support and a maximum of 10 items per page.
- `get_items`: retrieves records for specified ASINs.
- `get_variations`: lists the size and colour child products associated with a parent ASIN, including their prices.
- `get_browse_nodes`: returns category metadata and the category ancestor chain in JSON or Markdown.
- `format_items`: renders previously retrieved data without another Amazon request. HTML grid output can be restyled with custom CSS.

The formatter supports iterative design changes, such as changing card colours or button styling, without consuming another catalogue request. This is useful when the product selection is settled but the presentation still needs adjustment.
