## Description
AI-powered SVG icon generation MCP server. Generate production-ready SVG icons from text descriptions with customizable styles.

## Tools
Capabilities this server exposes over MCP:

- **generate_icon** — Generate an AI-powered icon preview. Costs 1 credit. Keep prompts minimal - the system normalizes them internally. Verbose descriptions create cluttered icons. Returns generationId for download. Note: previews are watermarked and low-resolution — for display/evaluation only, not production use. Use download_icon to get the final unwatermarked assets.
- **regenerate_icon** — Regenerate a specific icon variation. Costs 1 credit. Returns 4 candidate previews + regenToken. Use confirm_regeneration with regenToken and selectedIndex (0-3) to finalize.
- **confirm_regeneration** — Finalize a regeneration by selecting one of the 4 candidates. Free — credit was charged during regenerate_icon.
- **check_credits** — Check the current credit balance and account information. Free to use.
- **download_icon** — Download the final SVG + PNG package for an icon. Costs 5 credits (single) or 4 credits/icon (bundle). Provide outputPath to save to file. Always save to the user's working directory with a descriptive filename.
- **normalize_bundle** — Plan an icon bundle from a description. Free but rate-limited. Returns bundleId — pass it to generate_bundle for traceability.
- **generate_bundle** — Generate a bundle of icons. Costs 1 credit per icon. Keep descriptions minimal - verbose prompts create cluttered icons. Use normalize_bundle first or provide icons directly. Note: previews are watermarked and low-resolution — for display/evaluation only, not production use. Use download_icon to get the final unwatermarked assets.
- **save_to_library** — Save a generated icon to your library for free re-downloads. Free. Use generationId from generate_icon or bundleId from generate_bundle.
- **list_library** — Browse your saved icons. Free. Use download_from_library with a library item's id.
- **download_from_library** — Re-download from library. Free for previously exported items. Provide outputPath to save to file.
- **claim_daily_credits** — Claim 2 free daily credits. Once per day.

## Claude Desktop Quick Installation
Install path detected from listing signals. Uses `npx` (confidence: high):

```json
"mcpServers": {
  "icogenie-mcp": {
    "command": "npx",
    "args": ["-y","@icogenie/mcp"],
    "env": {
      "ICOGENIE_API_URL": "",
      "ICOGENIE_SESSION_TOKEN": "",
      "ICOGENIE_CONFIG_DIR": ""
    }
  }
}
```

**Requires environment variables:** `ICOGENIE_API_URL`, `ICOGENIE_SESSION_TOKEN`, `ICOGENIE_CONFIG_DIR` — the values above are empty placeholders; fill in real credentials before running (see the repository for what each one is for).

## Documentation

## What albertnahas/icogenie-mcp MCP server does

albertnahas/icogenie-mcp MCP server exposes IcoGenie's icon-generation workflow through Model Context Protocol. An AI agent can request an icon from a short text prompt, choose a solid or outline style, request multiple variations, and refine a selected variation. The service returns previews for evaluation and provides a separate download step for final assets.

It also supports multi-icon bundles. An agent can ask IcoGenie to turn a bundle description into a proposed icon list, review or supply the list, and then generate the set. Generated items can be saved to a personal library, browsed with pagination or tag filters, and downloaded again without an additional export charge.

## How it works

Install the npm package globally or launch it with `npx`. The server communicates with IcoGenie and exposes the operations as MCP tools to clients such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, and Cursor. On first use, it opens a browser authentication flow, requests approval, and saves the resulting session token under the IcoGenie configuration directory. Later runs reuse that token, which is also shared with the IcoGenie CLI.

The normal single-icon flow is to check credits, call `generate_icon`, optionally call `regenerate_icon`, and select a result with `confirm_regeneration`. Preview generation costs one credit, while the final `download_icon` export costs five credits for a single icon or four credits per icon in a bundle. Previews are watermarked and low resolution; downloading is required for the final unwatermarked SVG and PNG package.

Bundle planning is separate from bundle generation. `normalize_bundle` creates a proposed list and returns a bundle identifier. That identifier can be passed to `generate_bundle` for traceability, with generation charged at one credit per icon.

## Setup and configuration

Install with:

```bash
npm install -g @icogenie/mcp
```

Or run it directly:

```bash
npx @icogenie/mcp
```

For Claude Desktop, add an MCP entry that runs `npx -y @icogenie/mcp`. Claude Code can use the server when it is installed globally or invoked through `npx`.

Interactive authentication is the default. For CI/CD or other headless environments, set `ICOGENIE_SESSION_TOKEN` to bypass the browser flow. `ICOGENIE_API_URL` changes the API endpoint, and `ICOGENIE_CONFIG_DIR` changes where configuration is stored; the documented defaults are IcoGenie's hosted endpoint and `~/.icogenie`.

## Tools and capabilities

The albertnahas/icogenie-mcp MCP server provides tools for:

- Generating and regenerating single-icon previews.
- Confirming one candidate from a four-option regeneration result.
- Checking balances and claiming two free daily credits once every 24 hours.
- Planning and generating icon bundles.
- Exporting SVG and PNG packages to a specified path, or returning base64 when no path is supplied.
- Saving generated items, listing library entries, filtering by tag, and downloading saved items for free.

Keep prompts concise. The service normalizes prompts internally, and the documentation warns that verbose descriptions can produce cluttered icons. Use a descriptive working-directory filename when saving output files.

## Limitations and notes

Credit usage matters: previews, regeneration, and downloads have separate charges, while confirmation and library operations are free. Bundle normalization is free but rate-limited. Preview responses are not production assets because they are watermarked and low resolution. The final export is delivered through `download_icon`; saved library items can be downloaded again without an additional export charge.
